Abstract
Climate science and its flag ship IPCC find itself in difficult waters;
on the one side its authority is contested by alarmist, which add dramatizing detail to a robust and hardly contested core of scientific knowledge, on the other side skeptics doubts the validity of the this core of knowledge. The events at the turn of the years 2009/2010 brought a decline in trust into climate science, which in the framework of postnormal science is not really
surprising. For rebuilding the trust in science measures are needed, which
recognize the specific postnormal situation; climate services need to be
installed, the contract between science and society needs to be revisited, and regional bottom-up efforts should accompany the global efforts of IPCC.
